A message from VP of Enrollment Management Brian Troyer

Dear Enrollment Management colleagues,

I hope this newsletter finds you doing well! I know there are a few new employees in Enrollment Management who joined us in July; for the rest of the Division, I hope each of you had a restful and restorative Gift of Time. Hearing many of your stories of how you spent the Gift of Time has helped me reflect on how valuable the time truly is — time set aside with family, friends, and even for ourselves. As we prepare to welcome students back to campus this month, it’s also worth noting how quickly the time within each academic year truly flies by. In that spirit, don’t forget…

  • Employees have two days of retreat leave each calendar year! Interested in learning more? Consider talking with a colleague who’s taken a retreat. One example of a retreat was recently highlighted in Marquette Today.
  • Consider mapping out a “vacation plan” for your year. Having heard enough examples of vacation days going unused (before they expire June 30) or colleagues feeling stressed about how to use all their vacation, it can be helpful to plan ahead and build in time for yourself over the course of the year.
  • Perhaps you want to spend more time on professional development, and Marquette provides numerous opportunities — check out HR’s page on Development & Growth.

The students we serve and the colleagues we work alongside every day appreciate us when we are at our best, so my encouragement for each of us is to apply the lessons learned and reflections gained from our summer Gift of Time as we make plans for the upcoming academic year.

Highlights

Did you catch the two rankings the City of Milwaukee received in July?

Since the last newsletter, I’m aware of several accomplishments and recognitions throughout our Division. If you know of more, please share, but for now please join me in celebrating the following:

  • Rosa Glombicki was named a recipient of the inaugural Courtney E. Wallace Distinguished Service Award by the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling.
  • Gabriella Marquez and Phil Jones each received the Rising Star Award from the Wisconsin Association for College Admissions Counseling.
  • Zack Goodwin recently completed his service chairing the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators’ NASFAA Career Awareness Toolkit. Read his interview here.
    • Zack also serves on the MASFAA (Midwest) Executive Council
  • Kudos to Tara O’Neil, who serves on the NASFAA Standards of Excellence review team and the NASFAA’s Rapid Response Network
  • Kudos to Stephanie Ryan, who serves on the WASFAA (Wisconsin) Executive Committee
Looking ahead

As you’ll note in Enroll Call, we have a date for the fall division meeting! (It’s Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 10-11:30 a.m.). We always love seeing as many in-person attendees as possible, but we’ll also be sure to have a Teams option. I plan on meeting individually (before our Division-wide meeting) with our newest employees soon, and will look forward to seeing everyone when we meet in the fall!

A friendly reminder that the process of goal setting each year is an important one, so I encourage you to work with your supervisor (if you haven’t already) to establish the goals you’ll be working on in the coming year.

As I close this second edition of the newsletter, I want to share something powerful that was shared with me and a group of Jesuit university leaders when we were in El Salvador: “The only thing that spreads as quickly as fear is inspiration.” As we each prepare in our own way for the year ahead, I want to thank each of you for all you do to inspire others, to serve our students, and to contribute to what promises to be an outstanding 2025-2026 academic year.

Sincerely,

Brian Troyer

Vice President, Enrollment Management
