Marquette’s first-year students are settling in with optimism and purpose. According to the 2025 First-Time, First-Year Student Survey, nearly 90% plan to engage in community service, with one-third aiming for six or more hours each week. Fewer than 2% expect to transfer before graduating, the lowest rate in survey history, while levels of concerns related to finances, academics and fitting in have dropped compared to prior years.
Still, the data reveal important gaps: students of color are less likely to rank Marquette as a top choice and, compared to their peers, have lower levels of agreement with items related to their sense of belonging — though trends show improvement on these items over time.
