With 2024 coming to an end, here are Marquette’s top 10 social media moments of the year.
This does not include social media related to the death of Dr. Michael R. Lovell. We continue to mourn this loss and remember his family in prayer.
10. Marquette ‘Connections’
There’s a “home” for everyone at Marquette, which served as the creative inspiration behind Marquette’s new TV spot, “Connections.” The ad showcases the student journey from warm arrival to thriving in mind, body and spirit, and features current Marquette students, faculty, staff, parents and an alumna who is part of the Marquette Mentors program.
9. 3 The Difference
Alumnus and NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade inspired many when he committed to a $3 million gift that will make a major impact on three areas at the university. The gift will extend the Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program, establish the Wade Scholars and support a new men’s basketball practice facility in a future expansion of the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center.
8. Welcome home, Doc!
Doc Rivers, a Marquette basketball legend, university trustee emeritus and All-University Alumni Award Recipient, was named the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 26. A day later, the Fiserv Forum crowd gave him a warm welcome home during the men’s basketball team’s matchup with Seton Hall.
7. This isn’t goodbye
It is always an emotional moment when families part ways with their students during Orientation. But it’s not really goodbye, just the start of a new chapter.
6. This is our day
Marquette nation came together to Ring Out Ahoya on National Marquette Day, cheering on the women’s basketball team as they played Villanova and the men’s basketball team in its duel with St. John’s.
5. Class of 2028 arrives on campus
Nearly 2,150 first-year undergraduate students from 40 states, Washington D.C., two U.S. territories and 12 countries began moving into Marquette residence halls on Aug. 21. The festivities culminated in New Student Convocation — the last time the entire Class of 2028 will be together until their Commencement.
4. Oh how sweet it is!
Marquette fans were hyped when the Golden Eagles men’s basketball team advanced to the program’s first Sweet 16 since 2013 thanks to victories against 15th-ranked Western Kentucky and 10th-ranked Colorado.
3. College of Nursing opens doors to new home in Straz Hall
The College of Nursing officially welcomed students into its new home in the reimagined David A. Straz, Jr., Hall at the start of the fall semester. The building underwent a radical transformation after serving as home to Marquette Business since its initial construction in 1951.

The new state-of-the-art Wellness + Helfaer Recreation facility will soon be bustling with activity when it opens its doors on January 13, 2025. The facility will improve the student experience by bringing fitness, recreation, medical and counseling services into one central location.
