The Honors Program invites students to practice professional conversations on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the 707 Hub.
Ever walked into a room full of new people and wondered who to talk to or what to say? This event is your low-stakes chance to figure that out. Practice Professional Conversation is a relaxed, structured space to meet new people and have real conversations in a short amount of time. It is not a networking event. There are no elevator pitches, no résumés and no pressure to impress anyone. The goal isn’t to sell yourself. It’s to connect.
You’ll move through a series of brief, one-on-one conversations, meeting someone new each round. You’ll practice starting a conversation, asking good questions, listening well and sharing things about yourself naturally. The goal is to gain confidence, conversational dexterity and comfort with small talk that can lead somewhere meaningful. These skills transfer to interviews, career fairs, classrooms and everyday life.
Everyone is invited: first-years to seniors, extroverts to introverts, and anyone who has ever felt awkward in a new conversation. No preparation is needed. Just bring your openness and curiosity. Food will be served. Registration is required by Monday, Oct. 26, to attend.
