Join the Department of Theology for a lunchtime talk with Dr. Rita George-Tvrtković, dean and professor of theology at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Haggerty Museum of Art.
Register online; walk ins are welcome.
This presentation will contrast two sets of Christian Marian images that relate to Islam: those that show Mary against Muslims (“Our Lady of Victory”), versus more positive images with the potential to bring Christians and Muslims together.
George-Tvrtković is an expert on how Christians, Muslims and Jews have gotten along throughout history and how different religious groups talk and work together today. She authored the book “Christians, Muslims, and Mary: A History” and the article “From Billboards to Mosques Maryam: Do Muslims Today Call on Mary with Devotion?” among many other publications.
George-Tvrtković will also present the Theotokos Lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
This lunchtime talk is co-presented with the Department of Theology and sponsored by Lilly Endowment Inc.
