Marquette Eagle Racing, an off-road racing team organized by Marquette’s chapter of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), is at full throttle this academic year with growing membership and plenty of enthusiasm.
The student organization is geared toward the Baja racing competitions — hosted internationally by the Society of Automotive Engineers — but in recent years has diversified its operations to welcome student talent from across disciplines and majors at Marquette. In addition to the design, building and maintenance of their vehicles, the team includes students focused on marketing and branding, budgeting, project management and more.
Earlier this semester, the team tested their grit against other colleges and universities at the Backwoods Baja hosted at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, finishing in seventh place out of 25 cars. Thanks to the gifted photographers among the team’s ranks, they have plenty of action shots to celebrate with campus.
On the road ahead, Marquette Eagle Racing plans to compete in Michigan Tech’s Winter Baja in February as well as Baja SAE Arizona in May, an official collegiate design series event.
