Dr. Lewis Ayres, professor of Catholic and historical theology at Durham University and McDonald Agape Distinguished Chair in Early Christian Theology at Pontificia Università San Tommaso D’Aquino, will deliver the 2024 Père Marquette Lecture on Sunday, April 7, at 2 p.m. in Eckstein Hall’s Lubar Center.
This event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. No RSVP is required.
Ayres’ lecture will be a consideration of the manner in which Christianity was formed by its encounter with the traditions of Greek thought, as well as a consideration of how Christian thinkers today should continue to value that formative period.
The Père Marquette Lecture was established in 1969 under the auspices of the Department of Theology. The series was endowed by the children of Joseph A. Auchter, a Milwaukee banker, in honor of their father. In keeping with its history, the lectureship continues to recognize and honor theologians of international renown whose work has made an outstanding original contribution to the field. The lectures are published by the Marquette University Press.
