On Friday, Oct. 28, students, faculty, staff, families and friends gathered in Engineering Hall for a showcase of undergraduate research projects within the Opus College of Engineering. Over 20 undergraduate engineers across all departments shared their latest work and findings, including projects focused on antimicrobial resistance, prosthetic heart valve fabrication, controls for hybrid energy systems related to transportation, green infrastructure, modeling fractures for steel structures, engineering education, biomedical imaging, water treatment, urban stormwater runoff solutions, alloy microstructures and more.
Undergraduate Research Day also offers an annual opportunity to gather and celebrate as one engineering community working to solve a wide range of problems. Many of the research projects stemmed directly from the Opus College’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). The SURF program is dedicated to enhancing the academic undergraduate experience by providing the opportunity to partner students and faculty in an outside-the-classroom research experience.
