Join the Sunshine Walk Aug. 6 for sunglasses and Pete’s Pops; free annual vision exams available through MU’s vision insurance

Employees are invited to participate in the Sunshine Walk on Thursday, Aug. 6, from noon to 1 p.m. The one-mile group walk will follow the Marquette Mile route and is designed to encourage physical activity and support eye health. Participants will be entered into a drawing for a pair of designer sunglasses and will receive complimentary promotional sunglasses and a lens cloth, courtesy of VSP, the university’s vision insurance provider.

Popsicles from Pete’s Pops and other light refreshments will be available.

The walk will begin and end outside the Employee Wellness Center near Coughlin Hall, with the sunglasses giveaway taking place at 12:55 p.m. Walk participants do not need to be present during the giveaway time to win. Faculty and staff are encouraged to join their colleagues at this final employee wellness event before the new academic year begins.

Participants can record attendance as a My Wellness Your Way Experience activity to earn 10 points for the My Wellness program, as well as record the activity in the ongoing Digital Detox Challenge.

More about MU’s vision insurance benefits

The university offers a competitive standalone vision insurance plan through VSP, which provides fully covered annual vision exams, including a retinal screening, when seen at a VSP network provider. Contact lens exams are provided for no more than a $20 copay. Other vision plan benefits include up to a $235 allowance on featured frames, a $185 annual allowance for contacts, and savings on additional prescription or non-prescription glasses or sunglasses after the purchase of a first pair when obtained from a VSP provider within 12 months of a vision exam.

Additionally, VSP’s virtual try-on tool through Eyeconic allows individuals to try on glasses or sunglasses from numerous major brands online simply by using their device’s camera. More information on this tool can be found on the Eyeconic page.

Benefit-eligible employees can enroll in the vision insurance plan regardless of whether they are enrolled in the university’s medical insurance plan. Full details of the vision insurance benefits can be found on the Vision Insurance page.
