Dr. Jacob Capin, assistant professor of physical therapy in the College of Health Sciences, has been named the new faculty director of research at the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center.
Capin will oversee research within the facility and focus on promoting ongoing research carried out by faculty from across campus and engaging additional colleagues in using the research facility.
“I’m honored to be named the new director and am looking forward to leading the AHPRC into its next chapter,” Capin said. “There are a lot of really innovative and interdisciplinary research projects happening here and I want to focus on highlighting those projects and leverage them into bigger grants for those researchers.”
Since it opened, more than 20 faculty members that have been associated with the AHPRC — either receiving small pilot awards or conducting research at the facility — receiving over $12 million in external grants.
“Since arriving at Marquette five years ago, Dr. Capin has been a leading emerging researcher on our campus, notably receiving the prestigious NIH Director’s Early Independence Award,” said Dr. Jeanne Hossenlopp, vice president for research and innovation. “Dr. Capin is well-equipped to collaboratively engage with faculty through the grant writing process to further leverage work done in the AHPRC in order to receive additional funding — all while helping them showcase externally how their interdisciplinary research connects to our mission here at Marquette.”
