Bridget Case, Comm ’16, received an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Picture Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for her work on the Netflix miniseries “Death by Lightning,” a historical drama about the life of President James Garfield.
“It was a genuine shock for me; I did not expect to be included on the list,” Case says.
Case has worked in Hollywood ever since graduating from Marquette, doing so primarily as an editor. She’s edited several streaming TV series, including the 2024 series “Dark Matter” for Apple+ and the Hulu series “Station 19.” Case regards “Death by Lightning” as one of the most interesting projects she’s worked on so far because of the dense, but little-known history that underlies its subject.
“There’s a lot of fascinating history packed into (Garfield’s) short time as president,” Case says. “I thought it would resonate with people who already had an interest in history, but I didn’t expect it to reach such a broad audience. The cast was incredibly talented and I was excited to see how everyone would bring the story to life.”
During Case’s time at Marquette, she hosted her own show on Marquette Radio, was a member of the MUTV production team and joined the short film club. She recalls meeting her best friends on the eighth floor of McCormick Hall as a particularly fond memory.
This year’s Emmy awards will air on NBC and stream on Peacock on Monday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. CT.
