On Aug. 5, 2019, the status of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir was suddenly altered by revoking constitutional clauses that gave the region a sliver of autonomy since its accession to India in 1947. The basic human rights of the citizens of that state were taken away overnight.
Journalist Anuradha Bhasin will speak to the serious threat to democracy this event posed for all Indians on Monday, April 24, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in AMU 227.
Bhasin is the executive editor of the Kashmir Times, one of the oldest English dailies in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. No registration is required to attend.
