Join Marquette Law School’s Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education, in collaboration with Common Ground, for “Fairness on Trial — Exploring the Power of Diverse Juries” on Friday, Nov. 14, at 11:30 a.m. in Eckstein Hall.

American juries are often less diverse than the communities from which they are selected. In many criminal cases, defendants of color may question whether a jury of their peers is judging them fairly. Diverse juries can help reassure litigants of the justice system’s fairness, and research shows they deliberate more carefully, make fewer factual errors, and are more motivated to avoid bias.

The program will feature the 22-minute documentary “Judging Juries,” which explores the problem and recent reforms in San Francisco.

Additional presentations will include remarks from Prof. Ronald Wright of Wake Forest Law School and information on jury diversity in Milwaukee and Wisconsin. The event will conclude with a moderated panel discussion.

The documentary will begin promptly at 11:30 a.m., with the program running from noon to 1 p.m. A light lunch will be provided.

Register online by Thursday, Nov. 13.
