The Division of Belonging and Student Affairs will host a symposium focused on “Belonging in Action,” on Wednesday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms.
Register online by Tuesday, April 22. Administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni and other campus stakeholders are invited to take part in the conversation. Come for all or part of the day as your schedule allows.
Catholic Social Teaching and the Apostolic Preferences call us to walk with the excluded, to bring those on the margins to the center of our circle of compassion. The content of this symposium is designed to help us explore how we can cultivate an organizational culture that fosters connectivity, with special care for those who have been historically marginalized on our campus.
Dr. Terrell Lamont Strayhorn, one of the most prolific and influential scholars in the academic study of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, will provide the keynote, “Belonging as a Campus Imperative: Why It Matters and How to Build It.”
Belonging is a basic need, a human right, and the foundation of success for faculty, staff and students in higher education. But what does it truly mean, and how can we build it? In this keynote, Strayhorn, a leading authority and influential voice on this matter, will weave together data, interviews and real-world stories to define belonging, explain its impact and provide actionable strategies for fostering it in classrooms, workplaces and campus communities.
More information about the history of the symposium is available online.
