Native habitat restoration project community planting, Aug. 19

Wisconsin was once home to more than 3,000 square miles of tallgrass prairie, but today less than 0.5% of that habitat remains. Through Marquette’s pocket prairie initiative, the university is helping restore native habitat and support pollinators and biodiversity in the heart of Milwaukee.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in a community planting event for Marquette’s newest pocket prairie on the south side of Cudahy Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The project was developed through two Explorer Challenge grants and supports Marquette’s commitment to building a hope-filled future through sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Planting will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. or until the work is completed. All tools will be provided.

Participants are encouraged to stop by, get their hands in the soil and help bring a small piece of Wisconsin’s native prairie landscape back to campus.
