Whether exploring career paths, touching up your resume or getting extra help with interview skills, the Career Center is here to help undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni pursue their lives with purpose.
For the past seven years, Courtney Hanson has been the director of the Career Center, now located inside the Lemonis Center for Student Success. She leads career education strategy and implementation by working with staff and faculty across campus to ensure students are ready for their futures after Marquette.

In this Q&A, Hanson explains more about her role and what resources the Career Center offers.
In 2024, the Career Center moved its services, along with other anchor programs, inside the Lemonis Center for Student Success. How has becoming a part of this central hub for academic resources benefited students?
Prior to the opening of the Lemonis Center for Student Success, offices that now reside in the center were located all over campus. The opening of the LCSS has benefited students and staff because it is the central hub for activity. The center is meant to help students succeed from their first day on campus to their first destination after Marquette. The Academic Resource Center, which provides academic coaching and tutoring services and the Career Center in the Lemonis Center for Student Success directly addresses these objectives. The Lemonis Center is also a convening space for everyone on campus to become more aware of all the services and resources across the entire campus.
Since there are multiple locations for specialized help in the Lemonis Center, how can students easily find where they need to go?
The Ask Me Desk is a great first stop for students to find the services and resources they need. There are also signs around the space to guide students, and any staff member is always more than happy to help.

For events such as resume building, cover letter writing and interviewing lessons, do students need to sign up or can they just arrive when it starts?
Career Center events are open to all students and rarely require pre-registration (there are just a few events with limited space that require an application, and that is clearly marked in all event promotion). If a student or staff member is looking for a presentation on resumes, cover letters, interviewing or any career topic, they can simply submit a presentation request form found on our website to start the process.
Does the Career Center host people from companies to help or talk to students?
Definitely. There are many ways the Career Center connects students with employers, including four career fairs throughout the year, industry pop-up events, networking events and employer tabling in the LCSS. We also teach students how to connect with alumni and employers on their own so they feel supported as they navigate their own unique career exploration journey.
What other resources does the Career Center offer that people may not be aware of?
- Iris Booth sponsored by Direct Supply: Self-service photo booth located in the LCSS under the main staircase for professional headshots.
- Student Professional Development Fund: During the academic year, students can apply for funding of up to $500 for a career-related professional development opportunity.
- Business card printing: Students may request printing of 30 business cards for free.
- Resume printing: Students may request printing of 10 copies of their resume for free.
If you were a student, what would be your go-to study spot in the Lemonis Center?
There are so many great spots to study in the LCSS! A few of the places I think I would gravitate toward are the high-top tables outside of the Career Lab at the Career Center, the booths on the third-floor mezzanine, and picnic tables for group work.
