A National Marquette Day message to students from university leaders

This Saturday, Feb. 7, our university community will gather for the 34th National Marquette Day, our annual global celebration which unites us in pride, spirit and sport. As you celebrate, we ask that you do so responsibly.

To help ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone, students may notice an increased presence of Marquette University Police Department personnel throughout the day and evening. This approach reflects our shared responsibility to care for one another and to prevent situations that could put members of the Marquette community or our surrounding neighborhoods at risk. Our goal is not to diminish the spirit of the day, but to support an environment where all members of the Marquette community — and our guests — can celebrate responsibly and return home safely.

We encourage you to participate in the many events held on National Marquette Day, including a Recovery at Marquette sober student tailgate hosted at GATHER at Deer District. A complete schedule is available on the National Marquette Day website

The university adheres to its Good Samaritan Policy, and we expect students to uphold the community expectations expressed in the Student Conduct Code. Many of you have gone through Red Watch Band bystander intervention training. We ask that you watch out for each other and put this training to use if necessary. Hydration stations will be available in the Alumni Memorial Union for students throughout the day.

We also encourage all students to download MUPD’s free safety app, EagleEye (and enable location permissions to access all features), as an added layer of security, and to use the EagleExpress transportation service provided by MUPD. If you see something concerning, please contact MUPD. To ensure you’re prepared, enter MUPD’s contact information in your phone:

  •  Emergency: (414) 288-1911
  • Non-Emergency (414) 288-6800

Campus expectations of respect for others extend to the Fiserv Forum, the Deer District and throughout the city. We ask that you represent Marquette and our mission appropriately. This includes treating the visiting team with the class and respect.

As a community of diverse backgrounds, experiences and viewpoints, we recognize and appreciate those students who choose not to drink or are in recovery from a substance use disorder. Underage drinking, illegal substance use, abuse of alcohol and/or or high-risk use of alcohol are counter to Marquette’s values and often disrupt our ability to treat one another with dignity and respect. This impacts the safety and security of our entire community, especially the sense of belonging of those among us who choose not to consume alcohol. Please be mindful of your choices and how your actions may affect others.

National Marquette Day is our day. We hope you celebrate it by exemplifying what it means to be part of this special community.

We Are Marquette!
