Marquette social media recognized among best in nation

University ranked fifth in U.S. for social media engagement

Marquette is ranked No. 5 nationally out of 364 NCAA Division I schools in social media engagement, according to Rival IQ’s 2025 Higher Education Social Media Engagement Report.

This is Marquette’s fifth-straight year ranked in the top 20, rising to its current spot from No. 19 last year. Marquette is the highest-ranked school in Wisconsin and the only private school in the top 10.

“Marquette is easily the smallest university by enrollment in the top 10, so to see the engagement we secure across all platforms is a testament to the creativity and commitment of our social media strategy and execution,” said Enrique Torruco, associate director of social media. “To outperform our peers, as well as state flagship institutions with four to five times our student population, is a tremendous achievement that is shared across our team, including Emily Reyes, our digital content specialist, and a creative group of social media interns.”

The report looked at Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter) and TikTok accounts for the 364 NCAA Division I colleges and universities between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025, and generated an overall engagement ranking for each school that blends total engagement and engagement rates. Marquette was balanced across all platforms, one of just three schools to rate in the top 30 for each platform.

Marquette’s flagship social media accounts surpassed 34 million impressions during the reporting period, as well as 1.6 million engagements and 5.8 million video views across over 4,000 posts. The accounts are also nearing 321,000 followers, including:

  • Nearly 133,000 followers on LinkedIn
  • About 71,000 followers on Facebook
  • Over 60,000 followers on Instagram
  • Over 50,000 followers on X
  • Over 7,500 followers on TikTok

“Social media engagement remains a critical aspect of our communication and marketing strategy as a key factor in the college decision process for prospective students, a top news channel for current students and an engagement platform for alumni,” said Chief Marketing and Communication Officer Lynn Griffith. “I’m grateful to our social media team, our committed storytelling partners across the university and our innovative team of social media interns for helping us sustain excellence in an increasingly competitive social media landscape.”
