The 2026 Marburg Memorial Lecture will take place Friday, Oct. 30 from 3 – 5 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union Ballrooms. Hosted by Marquette Business, the lecture will feature Dr. Leah Boustan, professor of economics and director of the Economic History Program at Yale University. Students, alumni, faculty, staff and members of the Marquette community are encouraged to register to attend this free event.
Boustan’s presentation, titled Where are the streets of gold? Intergenerational mobility of immigrants across destination countries, will explore patterns of mobility among the children of immigrants across fifteen countries. The talk will conclude by examining how political attitudes toward immigration vary across nations.
In addition to her roles at Yale University, Boustan serves as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, where she co-directs the Development of the American Economy Program and acts as co-editor of American Economic Journal: Applied Economics. Her research sits at the intersection of economic history and labor economics, with a focus on migration, labor markets and inequality in American history.
The Marburg Memorial Lecture series is named in honor of the late Theodore F. Marburg, a longtime member of the economics department. The series provides a forum for the discussion of moral, philosophical and social dimensions of economic issues. It also continues Professor Marburg’s commitment to the economic aspects of peace and justice. The Marburg Lecture is made possible by the generosity of the Marburg family and through the support of Marquette’s Center for Applied Economics.
