The Haggerty Museum of Art and Marquette’s Department of Theology will host the Theotokos Lecture with Dr. Rita George-Tvrtković on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Sensenbrenner Hall 304.
George-Tvrtković, dean and professor of theology at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, will speak on “The Virgin Mary as a Shared Figure? A Christian-Muslim Dialogue.”
The Vatican II document “Nostra Aetate” acknowledges that Christians and Muslims share belief in, and devotion to, the Virgin Mary. But did Christians always view Mary as a shared figure between the two religions? This lecture will consider where, when and how Mary has been used to connect or divide Christians and Muslims.
The lecture will be followed by a response from Dr. Irfan Omar and further dialogue. Walk-ins are welcome. Register online here.
