Marquette is partnering with the 9/11 Day organization to host a service event in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms to recognize and honor the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy. Volunteers will gather to pack more than 155,000 meals for families in southeastern Wisconsin.
There are a few volunteer spots available for staff, faculty and students from Marquette on Sept. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Anyone interested in participating should complete the sign-up form.
Volunteers who sign up will be notified and provided with additional information. Reach out to Kelsey Otero, senior director of community engagement and governmental affairs, with questions.
The meal packing event at Marquette will bring together almost 700 volunteers from across Milwaukee. Similar events will be taking place across the United States in more than 50 states.
9/11 Day has grown to become one of the nation’s largest days of volunteerism. In 2009, the U.S. Congress and the president of the United States joined in supporting the 9/11 Day observance, formally recognizing and proclaiming Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under bipartisan federal law.
Marquette is also partnering with the 9/11 Day organization to provide students with volunteering opportunities throughout the month of September.
