The Digital Detox Challenge is underway, and registration remains open. Registration instructions can be found on the Employee Wellness page.
Technology plays a significant role in daily life for many people, but intentionally reducing screen time can offer meaningful benefits. Some of the advantages of making a purposeful effort to limit technology use include:
- Improved sleep quality
- Reduced eye strain and headaches
- Increased social connections with friends and family due to being more present
- Reduced physical pain due to better posture
- Greater mindfulness
- Enhanced focus
- Increased productivity
- Greater opportunity for healthy activities such as exercise
- Improved mental health
Because sleep, cognitive function, stress and anxiety are closely interconnected, the mental health benefits of walking can compound when the activity is practiced regularly. Walking can also promote mindfulness by providing an opportunity to step away from the many distractions of daily life.
The Digital Detox Challenge aims to encourage participants to explore the benefits of reduced technology use. Employees can earn 25 My Wellness points by completing and recording at least three activities involving reduced technology use each week of the challenge, which runs from July 13 through Aug. 9. All activity must be recorded by Aug. 10.
To register for the challenge, select the Digital Detox Challenge in the challenges tab of the My Wellness portal. Full instructions can be found on the Employee Wellness page.
