High blood pressure, or hypertension, raises the risk for heart attack and heart failure, stroke, kidney disease, vision loss and circulation problems. Hypertension often does not have symptoms, so the only way to detect it is to get it checked on a regular basis. As with many medical conditions, early detection of hypertension can allow for effective treatment of the condition.

The Employee Wellness Center can be directly accessed via the entrance on the south side of Coughlin Hall. The screening event is free to all faculty and staff and no appointment is necessary.

Employees with hypertension who are on the Marquette medical insurance plan can take advantage of Tria Health’s condition management program, which provides individualized support from a pharmacist to ensure they are set up to succeed in managing their high blood pressure. This may even include receiving a free blood pressure cuff. Members can also take advantage of preventive care covered at 100%, which can help identify high blood pressure. Additionally, those on the medical plan can use a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) to use on eligible expenses related to management of high blood pressure.

All employees and their spouses can participate in free health coaching focused on heart health. More information on this and other wellness coaching offerings can be found on the Health Coaching page.
