University Christmas tree lighting on Westowne Square, Dec. 2

The Marquette Jesuit Community, Campus Activities Board, Alpha Sigma Nu, Department of Belonging and Student Affairs and Office of Marketing and Communication will co-host the university Christmas tree lighting on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 4:45 p.m. in Westowne Square.

The annual event will return to its longtime location on Westowne Square to celebrate the planting of a permanent tree on the west side of the Alumni Memorial Union, an initiative inspired by Marquette’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and stewardship of our environment.

Carols will be played and sung by the Marquette pep band and the All-Campus Choir, made up of singers from across the university.

President Kimo Ah Yun will deliver remarks prior to the tree lighting, and Rev. John Thiede, S.J., vice president for mission and ministry, will offer a prayer and blessing. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available upon arrival at the ceremony.

The event will also be a collection site for the University Staff Senate’s Holiday Giving Tree, an annual partnership with United Way to help provide gifts for those who might otherwise not receive anything for the holidays.

All are invited to attend.
