The Marquette community is encouraged to donate food to the Backpack Program as part of the Open Your Heart Food Drive, held in conjunction with President Kimo Ah Yun’s first Presidential Address on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms. All faculty, staff and students are invited to the annual Presidential Address.
The Backpack Program is Marquette’s on-campus food pantry that provides groceries and necessary toiletries to any Marquette student who is having difficulty accessing affordable, nutritious food and other essential household items.
Items needed include:
- Shelf-stable, low sodium soups
- Canned meats, beans and fruits
- Peanut butter, jellies and jams
- Baking supplies, oils and seasonings
- Condiments
- Gluten-free and vegan items
The food drive kicks off Monday, Oct. 13, and runs through Nov. 12 — the day of the Presidential Address.
Items can be dropped off at the following locations, or in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms during the Presidential Address:
- Al McGuire Center
- Alumni Memorial Union second floor
- Child Care lobby
- Eckstein Hall lobby
- Lemonis Center for Student Success, in front of the Ask Me Desk
- O’Brien Hall Lobby
- Sendiks Fresh2Go, at the front of the store
- Service Building
- Straz Hall lobby
- Zilber Hall lobby
- 313 Building lobby
Those who prefer to shop online can visit the Backpack Program’s Amazon Wishlist.
The new fall timing of the annual address provides an opportunity to look back on some notable accomplishments by members of the Marquette community during the past year while previewing upcoming initiatives, events and milestones. Given the event’s timing in the Thanksgiving season, President Ah Yun will also share a message of gratitude.
