Sydney Gang, a student at Marquette University Law School, was named the Carl E. Gulbrandsen Innovator of the Year by WiSys at the organization’s SPARK Symposium in July.
The award recognizes the achievements of Universities of Wisconsin faculty, staff, students or community members who make exemplary contributions as a WiSys innovator. It is named in honor of Carl E. Guldbrandsen, the former managing director of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, who supported WiSys throughout his tenure.
Gang secured first place honors at the WiSys Big Idea Tournament in 2022 with her invention, an athletic heated sleeve which helps prevent injuries, reduce pain and maximize performance. She launched her own company, Skip The Warm-Up, and is on track to begin selling her invention by the end of 2025.
As the official designated technology transfer office for the Universities of Wisconsin Comprehensive Campuses, WiSys advances scientific research throughout the state by patenting technologies developed out of the universities and licensing these inventions to companies capable of developing them to benefit Wisconsin and beyond.
