Marquette financial planning program becomes a CFP Board Registered Program

Marquette University’s undergraduate financial planning program has obtained accreditation from CFP Board, the leading certification body for financial planners. The program is housed within Marquette Business’ finance department.

“We are pleased to see the CFP Board recognize the high academic standards of our program,” says Finance Department Chair Dr. Bin Wang. “Financial planning is one of many promising career paths available to our finance students. Obtaining this certification will greatly raise our students’ opportunities for instant impact in the industry.”

CFP Board Registered Programs deliver instruction that covers the 70 principal knowledge topics that students must learn to sit for the CFP® Exam. Institutions seeking to obtain certification must complete a rigorous review process in which they are judged on their curriculum, faculty qualifications and program objectives, among other criteria.

Students who complete Marquette’s 18-credit financial planning concentration are now eligible to sit for the CFP® Exam without any additional coursework. Marquette is one of 203 schools to become a CFP Board Registered Program at the undergraduate level.

The coursework for the concentration is as follows:

Required Courses (Finance Major):

FINA 4001: Advanced Financial Management (3 credits)
FINA 4011: Investments (3 credits)
