Dear Marquette Business community,
It is my privilege to be addressing you for the first time as the new James H. Keyes Dean of Business Administration.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a proud Marquette Business graduate; I received my economics degree here and have had a strong connection to the college throughout my professional career. I was the vice president of corporate strategy at Northwestern Mutual prior to accepting the deanship. In that role, I observed firsthand just how positive of a force Marquette Business is as both an institutional partner and a supplier of future talent.
There have been so many full circle moments for me returning to Marquette. As I walk through the Alumni Memorial Union, I can see the spot where I first met my wife. I recently gave a tour of O’Brien Hall to my father, Frank DeGuire, who was a dean of the Law School. I have had the opportunity to welcome many of my former co-workers from Johnson Controls, Quad and Northwestern Mutual back onto campus. I sit in the office named in memory of my adviser and former dean of the college, Joe Daniels. All of these give me energy and inspiration to continue to evolve and improve the college as we deliver on our mission of delivering excellent experiences for today’s students.
I wanted to come here because Marquette Business is unique among its peers. Graduates from our college are holistically trained, ethically oriented and quick to ask how they can use their knowledge to benefit others. They are always eager to push past their comfort zone to grow, absorbing lessons from prominent developers in our new real estate institute and incarcerated learners from our Education Preparedness Program in equal measure. Our students can be servant leaders at the highest level. It is the task of the faculty and staff of this college to maintain an educational environment that will turn that potential into reality.
This mission is what gets me excited to come to work every day. With your help, we can deepen our impact even more and educate a new generation of purpose-driven agents of change.
Sincerely,
Andrew DeGuire
