Search for next vice president and director of athletics paused until permanent university president named; Bill Scholl to remain in role

Marquette University will pause the search for its next vice president and director of athletics, Acting President and Provost Kimo Ah Yun announced today. The search committee will resume the search once Marquette names its next permanent president.

Information on the search for Marquette’s next president, which will be led by Marquette’s Board of Trustees, will be shared in the coming weeks.

Bill Scholl, who had announced his retirement in May 2024, will remain in the role until his successor is named. The vice president and director of athletics position reports directly to the president.

“The athletic director position is one in which the president has a key role in vetting and hiring, so it is prudent that we pause this important leadership search during this time of transition,” Acting President Ah Yun said. “I want to thank Bill Scholl for his selfless commitment to Marquette as he provides leadership continuity across all our Division I Big East athletic programs. I also wish to thank the entire Department of Athletics staff for their patience and grace throughout this transition, as well as the members of the search committee for their ongoing service.”
