By actively participating in Sexual Assault Awareness Month events, anyone can make a difference in the ongoing fight against sexual violence. These efforts are vital in creating safe environments, especially within college campuses and the broader Near West Side community. Junior Allison Lara-Osorio, who has spearheaded the planning for the Center for Peacemaking with support from her peers on the Promoting Assets, Reducing Crime (PARC) student team and a variety of partnerships, emphasizes the importance of hosting such events.

“I believe it is crucial to host events for sexual assault awareness because it provides a platform to educate our community about the prevalence and impact of sexual assault,” says Lara-Osorio. “By hosting these events, we aim to help dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the issue.”
