“Everyone, everyone, everyone! is welcome,” Pope Francis shared during August’s World Youth Day. Pope Francis emphasized in an interview on the papal plane afterward that this welcome included LGBTQ+ persons. Highlighting this aspect of the Catholic faith tradition, Campus Ministry is extending an invitation to LGBTQ+ individuals and allies for university Masses on Sunday, Oct. 8. These Masses have the intention of lifting up LGBTQ+ individuals and serve as a reminder that they are always welcome at university liturgical celebrations. A special greeting and prayers will be offered up at all Masses.
Masses will be held:
- 4:30 p.m. (in Spanish) at St. Joan of Arc Chapel
- 6 p.m. at the Church of the Gesu
- 9 p.m. at the AMU Chapel of the Holy Family
A celebratory hospitality reception will be held in the AMU second floor rotunda immediately following the 9 p.m. Mass.
Welcome Mass Sunday is sponsored by Marquette University Campus Ministry, the LGBTQ+ Resource Center and the Office of Inclusion and Belonging. For more information, contact Bernardo Ávila Borunda, assistant director of Campus Ministry.
