Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 

Marquette invites all students, faculty and staff to participate in programs to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Friday, Sept. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 15. 

Following are the scheduled events as of Sept. 14: 

  • Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff: Orgullo Hispano March 
    • Friday, Sept. 15 | 1 p.m. in front of St. Joan of Arc Chapel 
    • Join the Hispanic/Latinx Faculty and Staff Association in walking the Marquette Mile while displaying the flags of Latin America. Flags, music and treats will be provided. For more information, contact Alejandra Jolon
  • Cerveceros Night 
    • Friday, Sept. 15 | 7:10 p.m. at American Family Field 
    • Employees are invited to join the Hispanic/Latinx Faculty and Staff Association to root for the Milwaukee Brewers against the Washington Nationals on Cerveceros Night. Contact Alejandra Jolon for more information. 
  • Screening of “Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse” 
    • Friday, Sept. 15 | 7 p.m. in Varsity Theatre 
    • Watch the hit film and celebrate the talent of diverse actors. For more information, contact Alecia Conway
  • Fiesta de Noche 
    • Saturday, Sept. 16 | 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Eckstein Common 
    • Hosted by Sigma Lambda Beta, this annual tradition includes music, food and fun. For more information, contact Nestor Ruelas
  • Latinas Unidas 
    • Tuesday, Sept. 19 | 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Student Wellness Center (first floor of 707 Building) 
    • Mingle with other Latina Students, meet Latina faculty and staff, and eat great food

  • Soup with Substance: “Cultura, Carreras, y Comunidad” 
    • Wednesday, Sept. 20 | Noon in AMU Lunda Room 
    • In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Soup with Substance invites Latinx alumni who have community-oriented careers to talk about their journeys. Join to learn how their families, faith and culture shaped their pathway toward service and solidarity. 
    • Sponsored by Campus Ministry; Hosted by Office of Institutional Diversity & Inclusion and the Center for Engagement & Inclusion. 
  • Latino Arts Inc. Tour 
    • Friday, Sept. 22 | 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Latino Arts Inc. (1928 S. 9th St.) 
    • The Graduate School hosts a tour of the Francisco Mora exhibit. The fine arts institution is dedicated to exclusively showcasing the works of Hispanic and Latino artists.   • Women’s Volleyball vs. Villanova (Hispanic Heritage Night)
    • Friday, Sept. 22 | 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center
    • The first 100 students will receive free Qdoba.
  • Prospanica Milwaukee: Latino Men’s Development Conference 
    • Saturday, Sept. 23 | 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in O’Brien Hall 
    • The theme of the conference is “Molding Men for More Mindset-Mentorship-Money.” Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Register online

  • En Todo Amar y Servir with the Office of Mission and Ministry 
    • Tuesday, Sept. 26 | Noon on Central Mall 
    • Join for “En Todo Amar y Servir” to celebrate the anniversary of the Society of Jesus and Hispanic Heritage Month with Get Them While They’re Hot Tamales. The first 100 students, faculty and staff will get a free T-shirt. 
  • Marquette Team for “Black Brown Run Around 5K” 
    • Saturday, Sept. 30 | Gather at 10 a.m., race time 11 a.m. at Veterans Park 
    • The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion and the Race, Ethnic, and Indigenous Studies program are sponsoring the first 20 students, faculty and staff who’d like to join for the inaugural Black Brown Run Around. This event is aimed at promoting health and wellness, fostering connection among Black and Latinx communities, and also supports non-profits working to support financial literacy.  
    • To get your registration fee covered, complete this form by Sept. 22 or earlier. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

    • Join a student-led conversation designed to build community, cultivate cultural awareness and foster solidarity among Black and brown students. Food will be served.
