The Republican National Committee will hold its next nominating convention in Milwaukee from Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, 2024. Just as the university did in preparation for the 2020 Democratic National Convention that was planned to be held in Milwaukee, Marquette is working directly with entities interested in renting our residence halls and event spaces during the Republican National Convention. Proceeds from campus rentals during the convention will be used for student scholarships.
As shared via Marquette Today in fall 2022, a Convention Steering Committee has been created to lead the multi-faceted planning and execution of the university’s preparations for the City of Milwaukee hosting the convention. The following individuals are part of the university’s Convention Steering Committee, which is meeting regularly:
- Mary Czech-Mrochinski, senior director for public affairs – Co-chair
- Jean Dole, chief of staff in the Office of the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer – Co-chair
- Lynn Griffith, assistant vice president of university communication – Co-chair
- Rana Altenburg, associate vice president of public affairs
- Rick Arcuri, acting vice president of student affairs
- Kate Braasch, chief of presidential affairs and VISIT Milwaukee board member
- Dr. Sarah Feldner, dean of the Diederich College of Communication
- Steve Frieder, senior advisor to the president and corporate secretary
- Edith Hudson, chief of the Marquette University Police Department
- Paul Jones, vice president, University Relations and general counsel
- Dr. Stephanie Quade, dean of students
- Lora Strigens, vice president for planning and facilities management
The steering committee has developed five subcommittees, which will consider impacts on students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors. The subcommittees and its leaders are:
- Academic (faculty and student opportunities) — Dr. Sarah Feldner
- External Engagement — Paul Jones
- Facility Rentals and Services — Rick Arcuri
- Operational Impact — Jean Dole
- Security — Edith Hudson
Discussions are underway regarding the impact the convention will have on university operations, faculty and student engagement, logistics, staffing and other such implications. The committee and its subcommittees will work over the next several months to formulate plans for operational continuity, but also for maximizing the unique opportunity an event of this scale presents to the university.
Please direct any questions regarding the work of the subcommittees to its respective leader.
