Dear Marquette community,
Over the past week, the world has witnessed the Russian military attacks on Ukraine. Already, lives have been lost, livelihoods destroyed, and people displaced by this action. The situation is deeply troubling. Yet this is only the most recent and most visible exercise of violence to capture our world’s attention and concern.
As we enter the season of Lent, let us lift up in prayer the people of Ukraine and all those whose lives are affected by war and violence. This Ash Wednesday, Pope Francis invites all of us and people of faith around the world to join in prayer and fasting for the cause of peace, especially for the people of Ukraine. Ash Wednesday services will take place throughout the day on March 2 in both the Chapel of the Holy Family, located in the Alumni Memorial Union, and the Church of the Gesu.
The university has resources available (see below) to assist members our community who are impacted by these events.
Please join me in praying for peace and for the people of Ukraine.
Sincerely,
Rev. Jim Voiss, S.J.
Vice President for Mission and Ministry
