Students: Confirm you are signed up to receive emergency text alerts

Students are reminded of the process for receiving emergency text message alerts in case of an emergency (i.e. safety or weather related).

  • Please remember that safety alerts from MUPD are sent to all students, faculty and staff when there is an active threat to campus. A text notification is sent first, followed by an email with additional information about the incident.
  • For information about the university’s sever weather policy, read the recent Severe weather reminder shared via Marquette Today.

To make sure you are signed up to receive text alerts, as well as weather-related closing information, students must enroll in the university’s emergency text messaging system by entering your cell phone number in CheckMarq. Go to “Profile” and select “Contact Details.” Scroll down to “Phone” and enter your mobile number. Make sure it’s labeled “mobile,” not “home.” If it’s listed as “home” you won’t receive text alerts.

Please note: If your family’s home phone number or a parent’s cell phone number is listed here, you may not be receiving safety text alerts. Make sure to change this in CheckMarq.

The program Marquette uses to send safety alert texts to students does not allow parents to sign up to receive alerts directly. Parents who wish to get updates on safety alerts can visit MUPD’s Twitter account, @MarquettePD, where safety alerts are posted.
