Upcoming Near West Side events and programs

September 8, 2020

Marquette faculty and staff are invited to attend the following events and programs for Near West Side employees:

Visit the Vliet Street Oasis
This past August, the Near West Side welcomed the opening of the Vliet Street Oasis, the first urban produce stand in the neighborhood. Each week, local farmers and bakers share their goods with neighbors and visitors to the area. Located at 3743 West Vliet Street next to Triciclo Peru and Pete’s Pops, the area also features picnic-style seating to enjoy dinner, drinks and treats alfresco. The Journal Sentinel recently featured the Vliet Street Oasis.

Visit the Vliet Street Oasis Wednesdays through Fridays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to enjoy seasonal produce and flowers from the Vang and Thoa families and Mount Calvary Development Corp., healthy vegan meals from Caroline’s Raw World, and sweet treats and homemade jams made by Sugar Studio.

Made in the Near West Side Series Continues
This September, Made in the Near West, the Facebook video series that features local restaurants and businesses demonstrating what they do best, will continue with special features on how to prepare healthy dinners using fresh, seasonal produce led by Chef Lisa McKay of Lisa Kaye Catering.

Every Wednesday at 4 p.m. beginning Sept. 3, Chef Lisa will demonstrate how to prepare healthy and delicious meals like stuffed peppers and vegetable chimichangas using fresh produce from the Vliet Street Oasis. Chef Lisa is also accepting orders for ready-made meals available for pick-up weekly at the Vliet Street Oasis.

Review the menu and order online. Weekly orders must be placed by 5 p.m. on Wednesday for pick up on Thursday or Friday.
