“Pitch Craft,” a session on proposing ideas with visiting speaker Laura Goode, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. in AMU 254 (across from the Henke Lounge).

How do you convince an editor, agent, or gatekeeper that your idea is compelling, relevant, and deliverable? This 90-minute session by Goode, author of the new book “Pitch Craft: The Writer’s Guide to Getting Agented, Published and Paid,” will take a holistic approach to self-presentation that includes presenting yourself with confidence, optimizing your social media and web platform, networking effectively, writing outstanding queries and pitches, avoiding the slush pile and, most importantly, persevering through the inevitable self-doubt and rejection.

The group will spend about 30 minutes on a lecture that reviews the seven steps toward selling your writing, about 20 minutes on a pitching template that you can customize toward virtually any opportunity, and about 30 minutes answering specific questions in an open-ended Q&A.

The talk is sponsored by Friends and Alumni/ae of Marquette English. Registration is requested at Eventbrite
