The Arrupe Center for Community Service and Social Responsibility and the Center for Urban Research, Teaching and Outreach will host Common Ground for Civics in Action on Thursday, Oct. 23, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in AMU 163.

Common Ground is a diverse coalition in Milwaukee working with partners across the city to create change, such as installing stop signs, winning $33.8 million from major banks to repair harm caused by predatory lending, and securing new leadership at the Housing Authority.

Milwaukee is poorer, more segregated and more unaffordable than it was just 10 years ago, when Matthew Desmond’s “Evicted” was published. It can be frustrating. Problems are worse, not better. Streetlights don’t work, potholes are seemingly everywhere and evictions are on the rise. What can we do about it?

Kevin Solomon from Common Ground is going to share one answer: Build power.

Topics will include:

  • How Common Ground builds power
  • How Common Ground reformed public housing and won millions from the biggest banks in the world
  • What’s next for Common Ground as they build power for the common good, and how you can be involved

Lunch will be provided. Register online
