Apply to the Aspin Washington Internship Program for spring 2027 by Oct. 7

The final deadline for applications to study, intern and live in Washington, D.C. at the Les Aspin Center is Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 11:59 p.m. Apply online.

The Les Aspin Center for Government provides academic and internship programming focused on the public policy-making process. The Les Aspin Center for Government facilitates varied internship placements for academic credit, and a new flexible curriculum offered each fall, spring and summer semester. Students from all majors are welcome to apply. 

Spring 2027’s theme is Health, Wellness, and Sustainability. In addition to the required classes, all students will choose at least five, and up to 12, elective credits. 

Required courses [seven credits]: 

  • ASPN 4986: Professional Experience in Washington D.C. [3 credits] 
    • Counts towards an internship course in your major, with permission of the department. 
    • Counts as an ESSV2 course in the Marquette Core Curriculum. 
  • ASPN 4985: Professional Reflection and Discernment [1 credit] 
  • ASPN 4932: Faith in Action [3 credits] 
    • Counts towards the Marquette Core Curriculum (ESSV2 and Expanding Our Horizons) 

Aspin Short Course Electives (each with different starting times throughout the semester): 

  • ASPN 4932-102: Leadership and Statesmanship [2 credits; 10 weeks] 
  • ASPN 4932-103: Crisis Communications [1 credit; 5 weeks] 
  • ASPN 4932-104: Speechwriting [1 credit; 5 weeks] 
  • ASPN 4932-105: Sustainability, Strategy, and Resilience in the Indo-Pacific [1 credit; 5 weeks] 
  • ASPN 4932-106: Wellbeing, Leadership, and Sustainable Success [1 credit; 5 weeks] 
  • ASPN 4932: The Politics of Gender-Based Violence [1 credit; 5 weeks] 
  • ASPN 4932: The Enduring Fascination of John F. Kennedy [1 credit; 5 weeks] 
  • THEO 3340: Art and the Theological Imagination [3 credits; 15 weeks] 
  • More electives to come; to be finalized before the spring registration period.
