The university is forming a short-term steering committee to help develop the foundation and strategic direction for Marquette’s Disability Employee Resource Group, with the goal of formally launching the ERG at the beginning of next semester.
The ERG will seek opportunities for community-building, education, advocacy, accessibility and campus partnership while centering the experiences of employees with disabilities of all sorts, to include physical disabilities, sensory disabilities (vision, hearing, etc.), non-visible disabilities, and neurodivergences (autism spectrum, ADHD, etc.). Membership and participation will be open to all employees; individuals do not need to identify as disabled or neurodivergent to participate, contribute or support the work of the ERG, nor do members need to disclose their disability.
Throughout the remainder of this semester, steering committee members will work collaboratively to:
- Develop the ERG’s mission and vision
- Establish initial goals and strategic priorities
- Create a strategic framework to guide the ERG’s work and future programming
- Consider an ongoing leadership and governance structure
- Identify opportunities for community-building, education, advocacy, accessibility, and campus partnership
- Help shape the ERG’s launch and engagement strategy for next semester
The goal is to conclude the semester with a clear mission, goals, and strategic framework that reflects the breadth of disability and neurodivergent experiences within our campus community and provides a strong foundation for the ERG’s launch and future work.
Time commitment: Approximately three to four one-hour meetings through the end of the semester, with limited work between meetings.
No previous ERG leadership experience is necessary, and steering committee members do not need to identify as disabled or neurodivergent. We welcome employees who are interested in contributing their perspectives, supporting this community and helping shape the strategic direction of the ERG.
A kick-off meeting will be held Oct. 6 from noon to 1 p.m. in a central location on campus.
