Education and relationships in the age of AI, April 7

Join a Center for Teaching and Learning virtual session examining the growing role of artificial intelligence in education and its ethical, logistical, educational and relational implications on Tuesday, April 7, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Microsoft Teams.

The discussion will draw on the paper “From AI as a Relational Breaker to a Relational Broker: Comment on Bauer et al. (2025),” by Drs. Gabriel Velez, Larry Zhiming Xu and Jacklynn Fitzgerald. The authors present a framework for navigating the rise of generative artificial intelligence in education, emphasizing its potential to shape relationships between educators and students.

Grounded in Educational psychology, the analysis considers how artificial intelligence may either distance students from meaningful engagement or be used intentionally to deepen dialogue, feedback and connection in the learning environment.
