President Ah Yun goes behind the scenes at Milwaukee Pretzel Company in new “Off” Campus Connections video

Dear Marquette community,

Hopefully you have seen the recent storytelling about our Undergraduate Admissions team’s innovative collaboration with the Milwaukee Pretzel Company, owned by Marquette alumni Matt, Comm ’03, Grad ‘11, and Katie, Arts ‘07, Wessel. Over the past six years, high school students across the United States have received a pretzel with Matt and Katie’s story that is part of a branded package notifying them of their admission to Marquette.

I was interested in visiting the Milwaukee Pretzel facility to thank Matt and Katie for being such great partners and to learn about their company, so we decided to title this installment “Off” Campus Connections.

It was terrific to get to know Matt and Katie better and to hear their inspirational story of ingenuity and perseverance. Then I had the opportunity to go behind the scenes and see the process of Bavarian pretzel production, from ingredient mixing, dough rolling, pretzel shaping, baking, all the way to packaging in custom Marquette boxes. Matt even taught me how to roll and shape a pretzel (my samples didn’t advance to the baking stage, which was probably a good thing!).

It’s evident that Matt and Katie continue to be influenced by their Marquette education and experience, and they have infused the values of faith, excellence, leadership and service throughout all aspects of their business.

We Are Marquette!

President Kimo
