Dan DeWeerdt joins President Kimo Ah Yun on WTMJ’s ‘The Upswing’

Dan DeWeerdt, Robert H. Radtke Director of Marquette Mentors, joined President Kimo Ah Yun on this month’s episode of 620 WTMJ’s “The Upswing.”

The conversation opened with a reflection on the life and legacy of Marquette Mentor and actor Pat Finn, who died in December, and the lessons his example offers the Marquette community. President Ah Yun then spoke about the recently reopened Church of the Gesu, highlighting its significance on campus and the sense of God’s presence within the renewed sacred space. DeWeerdt built on that idea, drawing a connection between sacred space and mentoring, and underscoring the importance of presence and face-to-face connection in forming meaningful relationships.

The discussion also touched on Marquette men’s basketball, emphasizing the culture shaped by head coach Shaka Smart, who was recently named to The Athletic’s list of the most admired people in sports. Turning to affordability in higher education, President Ah Yun addressed concerns facing students and families, outlining the university’s efforts to control costs and the value of a Marquette education.

Hosted by Marquette alumnus Jeff Sherman, “The Upswing” highlights the ever-changing world of business and commerce in Milwaukee and across the state of Wisconsin. President Ah Yun is joined each month by an expert from campus to discuss their work.
