The City of Milwaukee will temporarily close the 16th Street Bridge over the Menomonee River to allow for major rehabilitation work. The bridge is expected to remain closed through October 2026.
The closure will affect all motor vehicles, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between W. Clybourn Street and S. Emmber Lane.
Getting to Valley Fields During the Closure
The bridge closure impacts direct travel between Marquette’s campus and Valley Fields. Alternate routes include:
- For drivers: From Marquette’s main campus, travel west toward N. 13th Street. Head south on N. 13th Street to reach Canal Street. Continue west on Canal Street directly to Valley Fields. (See map above for reference).
- For pedestrians and cyclists: Use the stairways at St. Paul Avenue or Canal Street to reach the Menomonee Valley. Please note the Hank Aaron State Trail River Loop between S. 13th Street/S. Emmber Lane and S. 25th Street will be closed.
- Transit riders: MCTS Route 24, which normally uses the 16th Street Bridge, will be detoured during construction. Riders should check the MCTS website or app for the most up-to-date information when planning trips to Valley Fields
