August is National Immunization Awareness Month; increased opportunity to earn points with annual vaccination in new My Wellness program year

National Immunization Month is an annual observance that highlights the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. During this month, people are encouraged to talk to their health care providers about staying current with their vaccinations.

Vaccines work by training your immune system to recognize and fight off certain germs, preventing serious illness. Being immunized against various diseases not only increaseS long-term individual and community health but can also lead to great financial savings due to reduced medical costs. While children often have a larger recommended vaccine schedule, children and adults benefit from regularly staying up on recommended vaccines, especially pregnant women and those who are immunocompromised.

For the 2025-26 My Wellness program year — which begins Monday, Sept.1 — the vaccination activity is being expanded from previous years’ iterations. Participants are now able to earn points for a variety of annual preventive vaccinations, including flu, tetanus and COVID-19. Previously, the only way the 25 points for this activity could be earned was for a flu vaccination.
