The campus community is invited to attend Mass of the Holy Spirit on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 4:30 p.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms to kick off the year and celebrate this annual, joyous Mass. All are welcome.
Similar to last year, undergraduate lectures, discussions, special topics, seminar and capstones will be suspended from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to allow all students — regardless of religious affiliation — to attend the Mass. Graduate and professional courses — including those taught by the Law School and the School of Dentistry — as well as undergraduate labs, clinicals and field-based classes will be held at their usual times.
Mass of the Holy Spirit, practiced globally by Jesuit educators, is a tradition dating back 450 years in which the community gathers to thank God for the gifts of creation and salvation and to seek the guidance and wisdom of the Holy Spirit in the coming year.
A university-wide picnic sponsored by Sodexo will be offered on Eckstein Commons — in between Schroeder Hall and the Alumni Memorial Union — immediately after Mass.
Further, Campus Ministry is looking for volunteers, including ushers, hospitality ministers and Eucharistic ministers. Eucharistic ministers must be Catholic and have received the sacrament of Confirmation in accordance with rules from the archdiocese. Interested parties should email Campus Ministry Assistant Director Father Romano, nathaniel.romano@marquette.edu.
