College of Nursing holds re-dedication and blessing ceremony for Straz Hall

Dozens of faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters of the College of Nursing gathered to re-dedicate David A. Straz, Jr., Hall in a ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

“We always say that when a student commits to us, we commit to them,” said Dr. Jill Guttormson, dean of the College of Nursing. “Straz Hall is a brick-and-mortar expression of that commitment. This building renovation gives us the tools we need to meet our goals as a college and serve our entire nursing community.”

Straz Hall initially opened in 1951 as the College of Business Administration’s home. The renovated facility spans 103,000 square feet and five stories. It includes new and expanded spaces for health care simulations, skills practice, student success staff and student lounges. The building’s classrooms are equipped with technology that better enables hybrid learning.

“This is the type of space that allows us to be innovative in new ways,” said Acting President Kimo Ah Yun. “We are committed to doing everything possible to make sure that Marquette is a top choice for future nurses. Straz Hall will allow us to educate more Marquette Nurses than ever before.

Rev. Ryan Duns, S.J., blessed the building with holy water.
