Volunteers needed for 2024 Commencement, Baccalaureate Mass

Volunteers are needed for the 2024 Commencement ceremonies and the Baccalaureate Mass, which will be held in May.

Commencement – May 11 or 12

Commencement is a monumental event for all Marquette students and their families. This year’s Commencement will be held either Saturday, May 11, or Sunday, May 12. See ceremony and timing scenarios below.

To make it extra memorable, the university needs your help. Faculty and staff are asked to consider being either a volunteer or column marshal at one or both of this year’s Commencement ceremonies.

Once the date is confirmed, the campus will be notified.  In the meantime, please reach out to University Special Events at universityspeicalevents@marquette.edu to be included as either a volunteer or column marshal. More information will come later this spring.

Baccalaureate Mass – Saturday, May 11

Volunteers are needed to help at the 2024 Baccalaureate Mass, which will be held at the Al McGuire Center on Saturday, May 11, either at 9 a.m. or 4 p.m., depending on the day of Commencement. See below for timing scenarios.

Marquette is looking for:

  • Graduating students interested in being a lector/reader, Eucharistic minister, acolyte/altar server, cantor, singer or musician.
  • Any Students, alumni or faculty/staff interested in the following:
    • Singers and instrumentalists to lend their talents to those of the Liturgical Choir and Music Ministry Team. Marquette anticipates one rehearsal held during the week prior to the Mass. A final pre-Mass warmup will take place in the Al McGuire Center the day of Mass, time to announced.
    • Ushers to warmly welcome students and their families as they arrive for Mass, offer printed worship aids and help with the flow of communion.  After Mass, ushers help tidy their assigned section and elsewhere as needed. Time commitment is three and a half hours.

Those interested in participating should complete the appropriate online form, with one available for students and another for faculty/staff members. Please note that the norms of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee require that any communion minister be a baptized and confirmed Catholic; anyone can assist in other roles.
