Diederich College of Communication celebrates faculty and graduate student research, April 9-11

April 9-11 marks the Diederich College of Communication’s annual Scholarship Week, which celebrates research and creative work done by faculty and students. All events are open to the entire Marquette community.

  • “Breaking the News” screening and panel discussion
    • Tuesday, April 9 | 5 p.m. in AMU 254
    • With trust in journalism at a historical low and minority communities increasingly pushing back on how the news covers them, the Diederich College of Communication brings together four of Milwaukee’s strongest female journalists to discuss “Journalism, Trust, and Fostering a Sense of Belonging.” This event will begin with a screening at 5 p.m. of “Breaking the News,” a PBS documentary about The 19th, a female and minority-focused news organization challenging traditional journalism practices and systems. Immediately following the screening, four female Milwaukee journalists will share their thoughts on how journalism can respond to the trust crisis while fostering a sense of belonging with their communities.

  • Keynote address, “It’s Complicated: Research and Romantic Relationships and Media” by alumna Dr. Valerie Kretz
