The Executive Council of the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies has honored two Marquette undergraduates, Amani Dalieh and Leen Mortada, with their 2024 Student Activist Award.
The award is presented annually to Wisconsin college or university students who have made an outstanding contribution to activism related to peace and justice issues. Dalieh and Mortada were nominated by Dr. Louise Cainkar, professor of social and cultural sciences in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Jodi Melamed, professor of English in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Yaseer Khalid, assistant professor in the Marquette School of Dentistry.
The WIPCS noted the work that both Dalieh and Mortada have done to “promote a future of peace and justice in Israel-Palestine,” declaring their “work is the kind that makes conflict transformation possible.”
Dalieh and Mortada will be recognized and presented with a certificate at the WIPCS spring conference at Edgewood College on Friday, April 5.
